Diocesan Marian Pilgrimage 2021

"Saint Joseph, Guardian of the Body of Christ"

( en español )

Bishop Michael Burbidge, Bishop of Arlington, invites you to join him to mark this "Year of St. Joseph" at the diocesan Marian pilgrimage to the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, October 30.

The theme for this year's pilgrimage is "St. Joseph, Guardian of the Body of Christ," as we prayerfully gather as one diocesan family within the Shrine devoted to his wife and our Mother.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend this free event! Many parishes are organizing groups to attend together, so contact your parish office for more information. Individual pilgrims and families are welcomed to participate on their own and there is no registration required to attend.

The cafeteria at the Shrine was closed during the pandemic and has not yet opened. Therefore visitors are encouraged to bring their own bagged lunch and leave it in their vehicle until lunch time. There will be an option to purchase individual Chick-fil-A boxed lunches at the Shrine for $10 each (cash only…no credit cards), but there may be long lines and the possibility of running out of lunches. If this happens, there are some local restaurants that are within walking distance.

The Shrine is wheelchair accessible and there will be sign interpreting in ASL for the deaf. For more information about the Shrine, feel free to visit their website (https://www.nationalshrine.org/).

Currently the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception requires masks for all visitors. Check back here on the days leading up to the pilgrimage for any updates to the COVID requirements at the Shrine.
