Bishop Burbidge addresses Latino Catholics

: The Most Rev. Michael F. Burbidge, Bishop of Arlington, shared the following statement at the Cathedral of Saint Thomas More on Sunday, December 11, 2016:

My brothers and sisters,

I am very happy to be with you and greet you as your new bishop in the Diocese of Arlington.

Today, is one of joy as we honor Our Lady of Guadalupe and also celebrate the Third Sunday of Advent.

Yet, like Juan Diego, you may have fear or worry in your hearts especially at this time in our nation.

So please know that my brother bishops and I will continue to be your voice to our elected officials as we strongly advocate for a comprehensive immigration plan that is fair and just and respectful of families and of the dignity of each person.

Please pray for your bishops and remember what Mary told Juan Diego: have courage and trust in her prayers and protection.

Thank you for the gifts you are to our Church and our nation.

May Our Lady of Guadalupe watch over and protect you always.

Hermanos y hermanas,

Estos muy complacido de estar con ustedes y de saludarlos como su Nuevo Obispo en la Diócesis de Arlington.

Hoy es un día de gran alegría cuando honramos a nuestra Señora de Guadalupe y celebramos er tercer domingo de Adviento.

Así como Juan Diego, podemos sentir miedos o tener preocupaciones en nuestro corazón especialmente en este momento que vive nuestra nación.

Confien en que mis hermanos Obispos y yo siendo sus voces con los oficiales elegidos mientras les pedimos la implementación de un plan de immigración que sea justo y respetuoso para sus familias y la dignidad de todas las personas.

Por favor recen por sus obispos y recuerden lo que Maria le dijo a Juan Diego: sean valientes, confien en sus oraciones y en su protección.

Gracias por ser un regalo para nuestra iglesia y nuestro país.

Que la Virgen de Guadalupe los guie y proteja siempre.
