Art Bennett

Art Bennett is President and CEO of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington, a licensed marriage and family therapist, and the co-author, with his wife Laraine, of five books on the temperaments, emotions, and listening. Art and Laraine have been married for over 40 years; they have four adult children and three grandchildren and are parishioners at Holy Trinity in Gainesville.

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI said that the heart of the Christian faith is realizing that God is love, and that when we abide in that love we abide in God and He abides in us (1 Jn 4:16). Art will never be mistaken for a philosopher or theologian, so he focuses on the practical, recognizing that the way we live our lives is a manifestation of the life of Jesus within us. He enjoys speaking about the integration of Christian faith and life into all areas of social, familial, interpersonal and psychological life, how to live the beautiful social doctrine of the Church and the corporeal and spiritual works of mercy, and how to live in loving daily encounters with family members and others.

Since the mission of Catholic Charities is to integrate the Catholic faith in the service of the marginalized, Art emphasizes the assets and gaps in our diocese and suggests creative responses to the "throwaway culture" that Pope Francis and Bishop Burbidge challenge us to overcome. He also addresses how strong families contribute to the subsidiarity that allows loving solidarity and promotes the common good, and focuses on the centrality of human dignity and its impact on social and interpersonal living.
