Congratulations to our diocese's newly-ordained Deacons Michael J. Folmar and Christopher F. Tipton!

Today at the Cathedral of Saint Thomas More, the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge, Bishop of Arlington, ordained Michael J. Folmar and Christopher F. Tipton to the transitional diaconate.

“The Church asks you to assist me and our priests,” said Bishop Burbidge, “as ministers of the word and of charity. You are sent forth to preach the truth and joy of the Gospel.”

Following the homily, both Folmar and Tipton proclaimed their promise to discharge the office of deacon with humility and love while also giving their promise of obedience before the bishop.

As the faithful sang the litany, the candidates prostrated themselves in front of the altar, an ancient gesture of supplication.

They received the essential elements of the sacrament when they each approached Bishop Burbidge, who laid his hands on their heads and prayed the prayer of the ordination.

Effective June 12, 2017, Deacon Folmar will serve at All Saints Parish in Manassas, and Deacon Tipton will serve at the Cathedral of Saint Thomas More, before returning to their studies this fall.
