Permanent Diaconate

Seventy-six active permanent deacons currently serve in the Diocese of Arlington, and an additional thirteen men are currently participating in the Diaconate Formation Program.

The formation, ministry, and life of permanent deacons are supported by the Director of Diaconate Formation, the Bishop's Delegate for Clergy and the Diaconal Council.

What is a Permanent Deacon?

A deacon is a man called personally and ecclesially to serve in the manner of Jesus. He is first and foremost a Christian in his state in life and in his secular employment. He is trained and formed by additional study and prayer for a special ministry to the people of God as an ordained minister.
