Bishop Denis J. O’Connell High School Student Chosen for Workshop at The Washington Post

Summer is a great time for high-school students to kick back and relax after a grueling year of classes to enjoy family vacations and long afternoons at the pool. But there are a number of students in the Diocese of Arlington who use the summer as a chance to get ahead and take their education one step further.

Cait Patterson from Bishop Denis J. O’Connell High School will spend a portion of her summer at the Washington Post’s Young Journalists Development Program. This program is designed for high-school juniors and seniors to gain insight and experience into the world of journalism. The week-long course will cover a variety of journalism aspects including: researching, reporting, interviewing, writing, taking photos and capturing and editing audio and video.

Cait had to submit an extensive application in order to be accepted into this program. The application included a lengthy autobiography and two story ideas that could potentially be used during the course of the workshop. Out of more than 50 applications submitted, Cait’s was one of the nine selected!
