Freedom of Choice Act

What is the Freedom of Choice Act?

The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) declares that it is the policy of the United States that every woman has the "fundamental right" to terminate a pregnancy. The act prohibits government at every level from interfering with a woman's right to choose and from "discriminating" against the exercise of this right" (National Committee for a Human Life Amendment.)

According to the Virginia Catholic Conference, the Freedom of Choice Act, or FOCA, would strike down any law in the United States that protects against any form of abortion.

The Virginia Catholic Conference urged the members of its network to oppose the Freedom of Choice Act by taking action on a USCCB-approved alert that did not include a pre-drafted sample letter. Since that time, several of our members have requested a sample letter to assist them in contacting members of Congress.
