Major Gifts Specialist

Position Summary:

The Catholic Diocese of Arlington seeks a Major Gifts Specialist to assist with the cultivation, and stewardship of donors through a specific management approach.  The Major Gifts Specialist will assist in the development, implementation, program support, and administrative functions of all program efforts related to securing strategic gifts not associated with the Bishop’s Lenten Appeal and Parish Offertory.  The Major Gifts Specialist will also work in coordination with the diocese’s Planned Giving Office to assist in preparing request packages that include a planned gift component. 

WHAT WE REQUIRE:

  • Superior oral and written communication skills, including the ability to speak clearly and effectively in a public forum. 
  • Aptitude and interest in database management and manipulation.  Experience in IMIS or Raiser’s edge highly favorable, but not mandatory.
  • Aptitude and interest in internet-based research and analysis.  Excellent internet researching skills required.  Direct experience in prospect research highly desirable, but not mandatory.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs.  Experience in EXCEL mandatory.  Experience with print design software such as Adobe Professional, Publisher, Quark a plus.
  • Character attributes required include a strong work ethic, a “can do” attitude, a respect and care for work colleagues, and a passion for raising money on behalf of the Catholic Church.   
  • Strong problem analysis, creativity, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.  Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment/action and be team-oriented, service-oriented, and have strong public relation skills.  
  • Must be accurate and detail oriented, with ability to work with confidential information.  Proven ability to organize files, events and materials in a successful manner.  Ability to handle multiple projects/priorities with keen organizational and time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of major gifts programs and or capital campaigns, with ability to organize, create and implement program efforts through use of marketing techniques.  
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Catholic church organization and operational procedures. 
  • Proficiency in Spanish a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.
  • Additional training and expertise in related fields such as marketing and direct mail helpful.
  • Three or more years of development/fundraising work experience, preferably in a Development, Membership, or Alumni Office setting.
