Position Summary
The Central Administrative Office (CAO) of The Catholic Diocese of Arlington (CC) is seeking a Network Administrator for the Office of Information Services. The Office of Information Services is responsible for selecting, deploying and supporting software, hardware and telecommunication resources for the staff of the CAO as well as the staff of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington.
The Network Administrator provides network support to approximately 300 users in the CAO and offices of Catholic Charities in a 2 domain environment with a single AD forest. The Catholic Charities network consists of a WAN with 10 remote locations, while the CAO is a LAN environment supporting the immediate campus of 200 North Glebe and 80 North Glebe.
This position is primarily responsible for: troubleshooting any hardware/software problems that may arise on servers; configuring and maintaining the Windows 2003 and 2008 Active Directory Network; supporting DNS for these entities; and monitoring network capacity and usage based on best practices for optimizing performance.
Excellent communication, organizational and problem solving skills are required.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot all servers in CAO and CC infrastructure.
- Document all software and services used on each server and incorporate detailed restore and installation instructions for Disaster Recovery Plan.
- Maintain and troubleshoot back-up devices for CAO and CC infrastructure
- Maintain and troubleshoot Windows Active Directory and DNS servers.
- Create, delete and support (i.e. reset password, unlock user account, etc.) network and email accounts.
- Manage Active Directory security groups and policies.
- Maintain a test server environment to test operating system and application software updates.
- Manage the phone, voicemail and call accounting servers, including software upgrades.
- Configure and maintain back-up devices for all CAO and CC servers.
- Rotate daily back up tapes and review one tape per day reporting any abnormalities to the Senior System Administrator and Director.
- Review firewall logs daily to monitor access attempts and report any abnormalities to the Senior System Administrator and Director.
- Monitor network capacity and usage, providing weekly reports to Senior System Administrator.
- Utilize best practices in optimizing server performance (i.e. modifying services, managing defragmentation software, move data, install & manage disk space, etc..)
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills
- Proficient with Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008
- Proficient with Windows XP and Windows 7
- Proficient with Active Directory
- Proficient with Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010
- Intermediate knowledge of firewall technology
- Advanced knowledge of local area networks (including switches and routers)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite 2010 and 2003
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- The ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- The ability to work independently and with minimum supervision
Education: The ideal candidate will have a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field and 2+ years experience in network administration; or an Associates Degree in Computer Science or related field and 3+ years of network administration experience; or an MCSE or MCITP certification and 5+ years of network administration experience.
Years and Type of Experience:Three to five years of experience in the computer networking field working with local area networks utilizing Microsoft technology.
