Parish Development Program Assistant

Position Summary
The Catholic Diocese of Arlington, Virginia seeks a full-time Parish Development Programs Assistant to help implement the Bishop’s Lenten Appeal campaign and Offertory Program within the parishes of the diocese.
Key Responsibilities
- Under the direct supervision of the Director of Annual Appeals, assists with activities related to the Bishop's Lenten Appeal (BLA) and Offertory Program, including organization, creation and preparation of materials; and assisting with projects using outside vendors and mail house.
- Coordinates training sessions, events and workshops offered by the Development Office for the Bishop’s Lenten Appeal and offertory programs. Includes securing locations, obtaining pricing bids, and helping to coordinate RSVPs and attend the events to ensure successful execution.
- Provides communications support for various program areas in the Office of Development such as drafting articles for the Arlington Catholic Herald (ACH); assisting with placing advertisements, stories and weekly updates in the ACH; as well as coordinating the quarterly Office of Development e-newsletter that is sent to parishes.
- Possesses general familiarity with all diocesan development programs, e.g. Planned Giving, Stock gifts, capital campaigns in order to refer parishes to the proper resource for assistance.
- Drafts responses to various donor correspondence for the Director of Annual Appeal’s review. Provides investigative research for donor pledges and/or donations when required.
- Maintains regular communication with parishes. Acts as liaison with pastors and parish staff to provide support with database issues and other development support as needed.
- Prepares special reports as needed for parishes, mailings, auditors or other needs as requested.
- Provides additional support as needed to Director by assisting with programs and projects within the scope of the position. Provides investigative research for donor pledges or donations when required.
Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills
- Proficiency in MS Office suite of applications. Advanced proficiency in Excel required.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Position requires exceptional interpersonal skills, use of discretion, negotiation skills, problem analysis, service orientation and public relations skills to foster the Church’s mission and parish relations.
- Must be accurate and detail oriented, with the ability to work with confidential information in a team environment.
- Must have positive attitude with an engaging and empathetic telephone personality.
- Must be a self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision and handle multiple projects/priorities.
- Experience with event planning and familiarity with a contact relationship management (CRM) database for fund raising highly desirable.
- Requires some travel to parishes throughout the diocese (Virginia) and occasional evening/weekend hours during peak campaign time.
Education:
- BS/BA in Communications, Finance or Business desired or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Years and Type of experience:
- Two or more years of development experience in a non-profit organization; preferable in a church or social service environment. Knowledge of church organization and procedures desired.
- Requires valid driver’s license. Practicing Catholic strongly preferred.
