Youth leadership foundation

The Youth Leadership Foundation (YLF) established in 1997 to reach out to Washington, DC's inner-city youth, has expanded to Virginia.  Through a program of classroom instruction, tutoring, mentoring and athletic activities, YLF works to elevate academic performance  and develop good moral character among students. The goals of YLF are simple: to foster the personal and academic development of minority boys within a framework of virtue.

The YLF identifies four target areas, or Pillars of Success: Academics, Character Formation, Personal Mentoring and Parental Involvement.

Currently the YLF’s program for boys, the Tenley Achievement Program (TAP), operates in Virginia through the generosity and collaboration of the Office of Multicultural Ministries, the D.C. Youth Leadership Program, Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, and a committed team of volunteer mentors.

testimonials

  • Mentor Testimonial: "YLF in a partnership with the Arlington Catholic Diocese is a great combination. As a mentor, not only can you help these young kids in academic pursuits, but more importantly, in their spiritual and character formation. You can easily see the fruit of your labor over one academic semester. The kids are great to work with and as a mentor you help make a powerful and local impact in the community and the kid's lives. Simply put, that's the reason I've mentored at YLF for over two years. I can't wait to see these kids graduate high school and get accepted into a university of their choice." Joe M.
