2006 operation rice bowl grants

Receiving a $1,000 grant:
  1. Culpepper Community Development Corporation: operates three homeless shelters as well as a variety of housing programs to prevent homelessness in Culpepper, Orange, Madison, Fauquier and Rappahonnock Counties;
  2. Sheltering Arms Homeless Shelter Operations: provides services to the homeless and needy, targeting Orange County and surrounding communities of Madison, Culpepper, Greene and Fauquier;
  3. Culpepper Community Food Closet:  a joint venture of Precious Blood Catholic Church and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church to keep a food pantry stocked to serve needy families in the Culpepper area;
  4. St. John Bosco Outreach: the largest non-governmental charitable organization in Shenandoah County, paying electric bills to prevent cut-offs, paying partial rent to prevent eviction, procuring prescriptions and food assistance;
  5. Our Lady of the Blue Ridge:  provides food, housing assistance and prescription medicine to needy people in Madison County and outlying areas;
  6. Orange Christian Emergency Council: an arm of the Orange Ministerial Association, helping Orange County residents and transients in time of emergency.

 

 

Receiving a $675 grant:
  1. Medical Missionaries, Inc.: located in Manassas, VA provides humanitarian support to low-income and disadvantaged people who have very limited medical coverage or no medical insurance at all;
  2. Project Mend-A-House: assists elderly, disabled and low-income residents of Prince William County, Manassas City and Manassas Park to remain safely and independently in their homes, installing safety aids, accessible ramps, and providing help at no cost to the homeowner;
  3. Holy Trinity Parish Nurse Program: provides health services for the rural elderly in three parishes, including flu shots, blood pressure and cholesterol screening, and health education;
  4. Annandale Christian Community for Action:  provides food and financial assistance to needy families in Culmore, Bailey’s Crossroads, Lincolnia and Annandale;
  5. Holy Family Food Pantry: distributes bags of food to families in eastern Prince William Country.
