[Jesus] unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written: 'The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives And recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.' He said to them, 'Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.'
Luke 4:16-19, 21
Because the work of promoting peace, protecting life and ensuring justice is integral to our faith, this work is shared by several programs and offices in the Diocese of Arlington that act as resources to parishes and individuals.

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) educates parishioners about the work of CRS and how it relates to our faith. We assist local parishes in connecting to programs offered by the national office, including Fair Trade and Operation Rice Bowl. Rice Bowl donations fund both international relief efforts and a local grant program that supports rural food programs. |

Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) coordinates a local grant program that funds projects that tackle the root causes of poverty and that are run by low-income people themselves. The staff and volunteer committee members also look for opportunities to educate about poverty in the United States and the call of the Gospel to give the needs of the poor priority. |
