Statement from the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge on the Bus Attack of Coptic Christians

May 26, 2017

Once again, I am deeply saddened by news of violence against innocent people of faith, as today at least 26 Coptic Christians were killed while on pilgrimage in Egypt. This attack reminds us again of the horrific persecution of our Christian brothers and sisters in the Middle East and their courageous witness to their faith. I ask that all the faithful in the Diocese of Arlington and people of good will join me in prayer for the victims of today’s attack. May God grant eternal rest to the souls of the faithful departed, healing to those injured and consolation to those affected by this tragedy. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace, intercede for an end to violence and religious persecution throughout the world.
