Welcome to the Victim Assistance website for the Diocese of Arlington. In June 2002, the Bishops of the Catholic Church met in Dallas and approved the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. By this document, they pledged to address the issue of sexual abuse by clergy, lay employees and volunteers in the Catholic Church. Our Bishops agreed to outreach to victims and their families. This includes the provision of counseling, spiritual assistance, support groups and other social services agreed upon by the victim and diocese for credible allegations of sexual abuse.
If you have come to this site because you are a victim of sexual abuse by clergy, lay employee, or volunteer of the Catholic Church, please know that we are deeply sorry for the pain and suffering that you have experienced. As Victim Assistance Coordinators, we pledge to do what we can to help you find reconciliation and healing from this very difficult ordeal in your life. Whether your abuse happened in the Diocese of Arlington or in some other diocese but you are now living in the Diocese of Arlington, you can call us for assistance. Please keep in mind that we are required by law and our policy to report the abuse of a minor to the proper authorities.
Please know that our Bishop Paul S. Loverde is willing to have a meeting with you and your family to express his personal concern for you, to pray with you, to provide spiritual encouragement, and to support your ongoing efforts in recovery. Father Mark Mealey, OSFS, our Moderator of the Curia, is also willing to meet and pray with you and be available to support you in your healing.
In order that we might reach out to members of the Diocese of Arlington who have been abused, we solicit your suggestions for the kinds of programs and counseling services that you would find most beneficial. We want to develop a plan for Victim Assistance in the Diocese that will be responsive to your needs and those of your family. We welcome a call or letter from you if you have specific suggestions that you would find helpful.
If you are requesting help or have any suggestions regarding counseling services or spiritual assistance, please phone us at 703-841-2530 (personal and confidential), send a letter to 200 N. Glebe Road, Suite 914, Arlington Virginia, 22203 or e-mail us at P.Mudd@arlingtondiocese.org, firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.
