quo vadis camp 2016 is full

If you would like to be placed on the waiting list, as well as receive information about upcoming events, please contact the Office of Vocations, vocations@arlingtondiocese.org or (703) 841-2514.

Important information about Quo Vadis camp:

    • When: Saturday July 16 – Wednesday July 20 (please note it begins Saturday and ends Wednesday due to World Youth Day this year)
    • Where: Mount St. Mary’s Seminary, Emmitsburg, Maryland.
    • Who: For high school boys who will be in grades 9-12 for the 2016-17 school year.
The camp is designed to give high school boys the opportunity to explore more fully God’s call to the Priesthood or Consecrated Religious Life.  Registrants for the lottery are asked to declare their openness to the idea that God may be calling them to consider the possibility of a priestly or religious vocation.
    • Fee: $180 per camper. Payment plans and financial aid are available (see below); requesting financial aid or Payment Plan in no way hinders a participant’s order in the lottery.

Important information about the registration lottery:

Due to the overwhelming demand for Quo Vadis Camp, this year registration will be done by lottery.

There are 115 spots available. The lottery opens at 9:00 am March 2 and closes at 11:59 pm March 31. Each person must be entered separately; only 1 entry is permitted per person.

Names will be drawn during the first full week of April. Emails will be sent out by April 8 letting people know whether they have received a spot or not for the 2016 camp. For those who secure a spot in the camp, the April 8 email will include a link to the registration and payment forms. In order to confirm your spot, you must submit all forms and payment by April 30, 2016, or your spot will be released for someone on the waiting list. Those who do not secure a spot in the original lottery will be placed on a waiting list, the order of which will also be determined by lottery. If any spots are released we will let you know in the order of the waiting list. Anyone who signs up after March 31 will be placed on the waiting list.

There is no guarantee for siblings to get in; each sibling will be considered a separate entry.  Registration slots are non-transferable; any exchanging or releasing of slots must go through the Office of Vocations.

There will no doubt be a variety of reactions to the lottery system for camp registration.  We have been blown away with how the response to these camps has increased over the past years, and honestly regret that we don’t have the time or the space to accommodate more campers.

Be assured that a lot of thought and discussion and prayer went into the decision to use a lottery this year, and we believe we are not leaving things up to chance, but to Providence.

While these camps are an opportunity for young people to grow closer to God and discern their vocations, they are not the only means. If your son or daughter is exploring his or her vocation, please contact Fr. Jaffe in the Office of Vocations and he would be happy to help in any way he can.

Fee is $180 per camper, and covers all meals, room, and activities for the 5 days. The actual cost of the camps is $500 per camper, which is subsidized by generous benefactors of the diocese. If you are able to pay more it is appreciated (and the additional payment is considered tax deductible); there will be more information about this when you receive registration information.

Camp can be paid for in three installments of $60.00 each. For those issued a slot in the original lottery (April 8th), the first payment will be due by April 30th. Second is due May 30th. Third is due June 15th.

Those receiving slots after April 8th will have the schedule adjusted accordingly, but the last payment must be received by June 15th.

Cancellations received before June 1st receive a 50% refund.
Cancellations received after June 15th do not receive a refund.
Cancellations must be received in writing (via email) to the Office of Vocations, vocations@arlingtondiocese.org.
