Youth and Young Adults
annual yam programs
Theology on Tap
Theology on Tap is a speaker series that takes place in the fun, relaxed setting of your favorite local pub. "ToT" focuses on topics of faith and contemporary issues that directly affect the lives of young adults (ages 21-39). ToT originated in the Archdiocese of Chicago and has spread throughout the country as a vital and popular component of young adult ministry. The goal is to provide a forum for young adults to learn about and discuss their faith in a relaxing social setting. Here in the Diocese of Arlington there are four series each year and each series features six speakers on consecutive Monday nights. The talks are recorded and are available in MP3 format and on i-tunes.
Anatomy of Love Seminars
The “Anatomy of Love” seminars are biannual evening lectures on the essentials of true and lasting friendship. One series focuses on authentic friendship and its importance in a healthy relationship and the second series continues on that theme with a deeper emphasis on marriage. Presenters for each series usually include: a therapist or counselor, a married couple and a priest or religious. All presenters are specialists in their field and are connected to the Office for Family Life. The evening requires registration and refreshments are included.
Christ in the City ~ Arlington
The model for the popular young adult holy hour hosted by St. Patrick’s in Washington, DC. The diocese of Arlington offers a holy hour on the last Thursday of each month fashioned after the one used by Christ in the City, Washington. Each month we feature a guest speaker. Please see our newsletter for this month’s speaker. Mark your calendars for Christ in the City ~ Arlington, on the last Thursday of every month, 7:00pm -8:30pm at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arlington.
Annual Spring Festival
Each spring we invite young adults to join us for an evening which includes: a wine tasting and tour, music and dancing, fellowship, and an opportunity to enjoy the Virginia country-side in the spring. This event requires registration and sells out quickly! It is held every year on a Saturday evening in April or May.

Historical Outings and Seminars
This new addition to Arlington’s expanding list of programs is an exciting opportunity to learn about early American History, World History, and the History of the Catholic Church. The Historical Outings are day trips to some of the local treasures within the Diocese of Arlington and beyond. The day includes Mass and is usually led by one or more of our local priests who happens to be a “history buff.”
Outdoor Events
Our Outdoor Events take place throughout the year and often reflect the seasons. Ice-skating in the winter, kayaking in the summer, hiking in the autumn, trips to the country-side in the spring… The regular presence of Arlington priests and seminarians adds a spiritual component to our outdoor activities.
Annual Fall Festival
Our Fall Festival is something like an Oktoberfest with a bonfire, dancing, games, live music, and other festivities. This event is usually held at a local parish and is preceded by a holy hour. Registration is required for this event.
Retreats and Days of Reflection
Please check our calendar for our annual retreat and upcoming days, mornings or evenings of reflection. There is typically a Lenten or an Advent Day of Reflection. Registration is required for the Diocesan young adult retreat.
Volunteer Days
We support local charities and programs by providing a way for young adults to get involved with their communities. We welcome invitations and suggestions for volunteer work within our diocese. An RSVP is required for this event.
