History/Resume

In current position since: 7/31/2015
Active in Youth Ministry since:
7/31/2015

Youth Ministry program includes: St. Mary's Youth and Young Adult Apostolate (YAYA) serves youth from middle school through high school in addition to young adults from college through age 39.

Middle School Youth: We host events for 6th-8th grade students that attend Mass at St. Mary’s Parish and their friends. We have "F3" (Faith, Fun & Friends) twice per month on Friday evenings, a fun night of music and games. There are also special outings like a Ghost Tour in October, bowling, and laser tag. Finally, we offer a week-long WorkCamp-style summer camp in June called "Camp Apostles."

High School Youth: LifeNite is held every 1st Friday of the month. The night features exciting activities and a guest speaker to explore how to "live life to the fullest." High schoolers are also invited to weekly single-sex small-groups called Catholic Life Communities (CLCs) on Wednesdays. We begin the night with a social activity, read the upcoming Sunday's Gospel, and have a faith-related discussion. We also host special events, such as a trip to Cox Farms and pilgrimage to Mount St. Mary's.

College-aged: Seasonal events are offered for college students who are home on break. Incoming freshmen are invited to a College Night every summer.

Young Adults: Those between the ages 21 & 39 are invited to weekly young adult events. Every Thursday night starting in January 2017 we will offer a weekly co-ed Bible study. Young adults also get together every 2nd Sunday of the month following the 11:30am Mass to get brunch. Finally, every 3rd Saturday of the month, a group goes to nearby Christ House Food Pantry for a service day followed by lunch. There are also special events, such as caroling, movie showings, and game nights.

St. Mary's is also home to a very active Scouting community and the Junior Catholic Daughters of America. Walking With Purpose offers activities for female young adults of the parish.

Why I work in Youth Ministry: Youth Ministry first impacted me during high school, when I attended a Kairos retreat. Through the experience, God taught me that He does not call us into an isolated "me and Jesus" relationship, but that He calls us to Himself through a community, a family, the Church. Despite this experience, however, there were holes in my catechesis, which were thankfully remedied through my involvement with the Fellowship of Catholic University Students in college. I joined a small-group Bible study, entered discipleship, and attended World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid, Spain. While in Spain, I profoundly experienced God's presence in the Eucharist and felt called to the missionary life. A few months later, I joined FOCUS and was assigned to George Mason University. For three years, my apostolate was among the college students at GMU until I felt the tug to consider youth ministry.    That discernment has taken me to St. Mary, where I am humbled with the responsibility of directing youth and young adult ministry. Please pray for our pastor, all our priests, our staff, and me, as we invite the youth into a growing relationship with Jesus and equip them for life-long evangelization.
