About the Order of Malta

The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta (more widely known as The Order of Malta) is one of the Chivalric Orders under the Protection of the Apostolic See (i.e., the Supreme Pontiff). As the oldest and one of the largest lay religious order in Christendom, the Order’s “Regulations and Commentary” are based on tenants of the Benedictine Rule, which the early Order followed.
