Statement by Bishop Michael F. Burbidge on the Haiti earthquake

On behalf of the people of the Diocese of Arlington, I express deep sorrow and heartfelt prayers for the Haitian people who have lost loved ones and are suffering from the ongoing devastating effects of the massive earthquake that struck the country on Saturday. In this time of tragedy, turmoil, and fear, we stand in solidarity with the Church in Haiti and all those who are providing aid to those most in need.

We ask the great Patroness of Haiti, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, to send sustenance to our suffering brothers and sisters. We also call on Catholics and people of good will to offer whatever financial support they can to assist in the relief work, including that provided by Catholic Relief Services.

May Jesus Christ, Our Lord, offer his protection, consolation and healing to the people of Haiti now and always.
