Statement on World Day for Consecrated Life 2022

During the weekend of February 5-6, we celebrate the World Day for Consecrated Life in the Diocese of Arlington. Consecrated men and women serve as witnesses of what we all hope and strive for: a life beyond this one, an eternity with God. These religious priests, brothers, sisters and other consecrated persons have traded all worldly ambitions and possessions for a life united to Our Lord.

The theme of the Diocese of Arlington's first preparatory year for our Golden Jubilee celebration in 2024 is Remember and so, on this day, we remember in a special way the 200 men and women religious in our Diocese who dedicate themselves daily to serving Our Lord and his Church. We also pray for the 57 men and women from our Diocese who are in formation with religious communities throughout the world, having responded to God's call to leave all behind and discern their vocation.  

These men and women remind us, as Pope Francis has said, that God is the reason for our hope: “God never tires of waiting for us. When we turn away, he comes looking for us; when we fall, he lifts us to our feet; when we return to him after losing our way, he waits for us with open arms…” (Homily for World Day for Consecrated Life, February 2, 2021). 

May we be inspired by their witness of enduring hope, grateful for their loving service to God and neighbor and pray for their continued, faithful response to God's call in their lives.

Durante el fin de semana del 5 al 6 de febrero, celebramos la Jornada Mundial de la Vida Consagrada en la Diócesis de Arlington. Los hombres y mujeres consagrados dan testimonio de lo que todos esperamos y procuramos: una vida después de la actual, una eternidad con Dios. Estos sacerdotes, hermanos y hermanas religiosos y otras personas consagradas han cambiado todas las ambiciones y posesiones mundanas por una vida unida a Nuestro Señor.

El tema del primer año preparatorio para la celebración de nuestro Jubileo de Oro en la Diócesis de Arlington en 2024 es Recordar, de modo que, en este día, recordamos de manera especial a los 200 hombres y mujeres religiosos en nuestra Diócesis que se dedican a diario a servir a Nuestro Señor y a su Iglesia. También rezamos por los 57 hombres y mujeres de nuestra Diócesis que están en formación con comunidades religiosas alrededor del mundo, tras haber respondido al llamado de Dios a dejarlo todo atrás y discernir su vocación.

Estos hombres y mujeres nos recuerdan, como ha dicho el Papa Francisco, que Dios es la razón de nuestra esperanza: “Dios nos espera sin cansarse nunca. Cuando nos extraviamos, viene a buscarnos; cuando caemos por tierra, nos levanta; cuando volvemos a Él después de habernos perdido, nos espera con los brazos abiertos…”. Inspirados por su testimonio de esperanza perdurable y agradecidos por su servicio amoroso a Dios y al prójimo, recemos por su respuesta continua y fiel al llamado de Dios en su vida.
