The latest report from the Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) shows 3.4 percent of children ages 5 to 17 were home-schooled.
In a statement, Bishop Burbidge said, “All parents are the primary educators of their children and I thank the dedicated parents throughout our diocese for their commitment to this responsibility. In addition, I commend and thank those parents who feel called to oversee directly their children’s studies through homeschool education. This is a beautiful calling that for many brings to life the interests and academic talents of their children. As they advance in their studies and scholastic endeavors, I pray that they continue to find their inspiration in Christ Jesus, our Chief Teacher and Source of all Truth.”
The event is sponsored by the Office of Catholic Schools of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington.
