Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I invite you to join me in the Novena (9 weeks of prayer) below for the legal protection of human life, from August 3 through September 28.
The retirement of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy and the nomination of his successor have once again engendered debate in our society regarding the need for the legal protection of the right to life of unborn children. Each Friday during the Novena, we have the opportunity to
pray and
fast so that a change in the U.S. Supreme Court will move our nation closer to the day when every human being is protected in law and welcomed in life. During this time, we must also look for opportunities to educate our family and friends about why this right—the right to life—is paramount.
As part of this initiative, participants may
receive weekly prayer reminders by text message or email. In addition to the current invitation to fast on Fridays, participants will be encouraged to pray one Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be for this protection of human life and will receive important facts about how Roe v. Wade is not health care, is bad law, and fails women.

With our voices raised to God, perhaps we will one day live in a country that protects the most vulnerable of people, the child in the womb, and that mothers would know of the support and help the Church is ready to offer whenever they face a challenging or unplanned pregnancy.

Amados hermanos y hermanas en Cristo:
Los invito a rezar conmigo una Novena (9 semanas de oración), desde el 3 de agosto hasta el 28 de septiembre, por la protección legal de la vida humana.
La jubilación del Magistrado Anthony Kennedy de la Corte Suprema de Justicia de los Estados Unidos y el nombramiento de su sucesor han puesto en peligro, una vez más, el debate en nuestra sociedad sobre la necesidad de protección legal del derecho a la vida de los niños que están por nacer. Cada viernes durante el período de la Novena, tendremos la oportunidad de rezar y ayunar para que un cambio en la Corte Suprema de este país acerque más a nuestra Nación al día en que cada ser humano esté protegido por la ley y sea bienvenido a la vida. Durante este período, también debemos buscar oportunidades de informar a nuestros familiares y amigos sobre la razón por la cual es importante este derecho a la vida.
Como parte de esta iniciativa, los participantes pueden recibir recordatorios semanales de oración por mensaje de texto o por correo electrónico. Además de esta invitación a ayunar los viernes, se instará a los participantes a rezar un Padre Nuestro, un Ave María y un Gloria por esta protección de la vida humana y se les enviará importante información sobre por qué el caso de Roe contra Wade no es atención de salud sino una mala legislación que les falla a las mujeres.

Al elevar nuestra voz a Dios, tal vez un día lleguemos a vivir en un país que proteja al más vulnerable de todos los seres, al niño que está en el vientre de la madre, y donde las madres sepan que la Iglesia está lista a ofrecerles apoyo y ayuda cuando tengan que enfrentarse con un embarazo difícil o no planeado.
Sepan que ustedes y sus familias están continuamente en mis oraciones.
