Archbishop McCarrick allegations, Pope Francis on the death penalty, advice to college students, Novena for Life and more

August 3, 2018

Bishop Burbidge expresses his sadness and anger regarding the allegations of sexual abuse by Archbishop Theodore McCarrick, former Archbishop of Washington. During this challenging time, Bishop Burbidge discusses what must change, and he offers guidance on how we begin to move forward from this tragedy.

Pope Francis has ordered a revision of the Catechism of the Catholic Church to assert "the death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person" (Catholic News Service).

Bishop Burbidge shares his thoughts on this announcement. Today, we begin the Novena for the Legal Protection of Human Life, an opportunity to pray that a change in the U.S. Supreme Court "moves our nation closer to the day when every human being is protected in law and welcomed in life."

Bishop Burbidge gives advice to college students preparing to move back for the next school year.

Bishop Burbidge also answers questions from the faithful. If you are interested in submitting a question, please email info@arlingtondiocese.org and include your first name and parish.
