Update regarding Gary Nuhn

Updated/Corrected at 4:22 pm on Sept 19, 2018: A September 18 version of this notice incorrectly stated that Gary Nuhn was not charged in Virginia. That previous version was also published in the Arlington Catholic Herald Newspaper. A correction is being issued.

The Diocese of Arlington would like to make the public aware of an incident of sexual abuse of a minor in the 1983-1984 school year by Gary Nuhn, who, at the time, was employed by an independent firm that provided computer classes at St. Bernadette Catholic School in Springfield, Virginia. Mr. Nuhn was convicted of sexual assault in 1986, and was sentenced in Fairfax County Circuit Court.  Court records and 1985 media reports also indicate that Mr. Nuhn was arrested in 1985 on charges of sexually abusing female students at Woods Academy in Bethesda and Nativity Elementary in Washington, D.C., and pled guilty to some of those charges.

The Diocese of Arlington encourages anyone who knows of any information related to  Mr. Nuhn, or of any misconduct or abuse on the part of any cleric or employee of the diocese, to notify civil authorities, as well as to reach out to the diocesan Victim Assistance coordinator, Dr. Frank Moncher, at (703) 841-2530. The diocesan child protection policy is online at arlingtondiocese.org.
