Rev. Mr. Jordan Evans

Theology III
St. Charles Borromeo Seminary
Virginia Tech
St. John the Evangelist Parish

What did you do prior to entering seminary?

After completing a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech, I served as a missionary on college campuses for two years with FOCUS (The Fellowship of Catholic University Students).  I first served at UMass Amherst and then at University of North Florida.

What influenced your decision to apply for seminary entrance?

I participated in an 8-day silent retreat July 2018 and felt a call to the priesthood while praying with the call of St. Peter (Luke 5: 1-11).

Why do you want to be a priest?

I want to live a life set apart for the Lord, a life of devoting myself wholly to serving Him and His Church.

What are your favorite pastimes?

I love reading, playing cards and board games, hiking, playing sports, and watching movies.

What is your favorite quote?

“And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” - John 17:3

Who is your favorite Saint and why?

St. Ignatius of Loyola is my favorite saint.  His personal prayer life changed the world and personally impacted my own life.  His Spiritual Exercises continue to be prayed throughout the world and it was during my time on a spiritual exercise retreat where I felt the call to pursue the priesthood.  He inspires me to be a soldier for Christ and his spirituality has taught me how to listen to God in the silence.

What advice would you give to a young man thinking about the seminary?

Your vocation is a great gift and one that should be discerned intentionally.  However, the best thing to do when thinking about seminary is to seek the Lord whole-heartedly; let your discernment be centered on knowing the Giver and not just the gift.
