Marymount University Recognizes Catholic School Principal and Teacher From the Diocese of Arlington With Leadership Program Awards  

Adrianne Jewett, Principal, Our Lady of Good Counsel in Vienna, and Emily Stocker, Technology Coordinator and Teacher, St. Thomas More Cathedral School in Arlington, Receive Leadership Awards at Annual Banquet

ARLINGTON, Va. - Marymount University's Master of Education in Administration and Supervision, or Catholic School Leadership Program (CSLP), has selected a principal and a teacher from the Catholic Diocese of Arlington to receive its highest annual honors. The CSLP Student of the Year award was presented to Adrianne Jewett, principal, Our Lady of Good Counsel School, serving grades PK-8. The CSLP Intern of the Year award was given to Emily Stocker, technology coordinator and teacher, St. Thomas School Cathedral School, serving grades PK-8. Both awards were presented yesterday evening at this year's annual Teacher Education Banquet, which took place in a virtual setting.

“We are proud of all of our graduates and happy to honor Adrianne and Emily. They are committed to our faith and dedicated to promoting the Catholic identity of their schools," said Sister Patricia Helene Earl, I.H.M., Ph.D., Director, Catholic School Leadership Program, Marymount University. “Adrianne, while serving as full-time principal of her school, has clearly grasped the skills and dispositions of leadership with insight and immediately discerned their appropriate application in her actual role. Emily, while teaching full time, has energetically demonstrated her leadership abilities and talents as she worked with her principal on significant school projects throughout her internship."

Awardees are selected based on the following minimum criteria:

• Maintain a high GPA
• Receive high marks in adhering to professional educational standards, most notably Professional Standards for Educational Leaders
• Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to and love for the Catholic Faith and Catholic education
• Demonstrate a depth of understanding of and ability to make significant contributions to Catholic education, modeling Christ in the spirit of Servant Leadership

Ms. Jewett said, “I am so humbled by this award. The instructors at Marymount are amazing. I learned so much from them and from my fellow cohort members. We have made professional connections and lasting friendships through the program.” She added, “The CSLP requires hard work and dedication, but the lessons learned throughout make me a better principal. Ms. Stocker said, “I am honored to accept this award and grateful to have completed the CSLP program with so many dynamic leaders. The lessons I learned from my professors and colleagues during my internship experience will help ensure I am successful in my endeavors. The program gave me the background necessary to continue to develop and serve St. Thomas More Cathedral School as an educator and will hopefully allow me to become a Catholic school leader within our diocese.” See photo of Emily Stocker here.  

Marymount University's Master of Education in Administration and Supervision is an online program designed to prepare students worldwide for school administration in Catholic schools, as well as public or private schools. Coming to campus for two weeks in the summer, participants complete the course of study in a cohort, supporting each other and sharing experiences and insights. Courses are designed and sequenced to help participants grow in their spirituality and leadership abilities. In addition to developing competencies in educational leadership, the program structure focuses on the Church's history, teaching, and moral perspectives while encouraging participants' own faith and spiritual growth.

The M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision is approved by the Virginia Department of Education for licensure with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision PK-12.
