Easter 2021

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,


Our Lord is risen! The Light of the world has conquered the darkness and provided for us the opportunity for life with him, now and forever. After a long, challenging year, we now joyfully celebrate the Lord's Resurrection and are renewed and strengthened by the hope he imparts.

I pray that each of you is able to embrace fully this sacred season of Our Lord's victory over suffering and death. Despite the pandemic and the other difficulties brought into our lives over the past year, we have reason to rejoice! Our Lord loves us and, in faithful obedience to the Father, offered the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf, so that we might have eternal life with him in heaven with the saints and the angels.

At the start of Lent, on Ash Wednesday, I preached about a fundamental virtue for those pursuing a close relationship with God: humility. St. Augustine famously wrote, "If you should ask me what are the ways of God, I would tell you that the first is humility, the second is humility, and the third is humility. Not that there are no other precepts to give, but if humility does not precede all that we do, our efforts are fruitless." God alone has the power to conquer death and give new life in him. Our joy should be rooted in humbly acknowledging that the salvation won by Christ is freely offered to us. Death and resurrection are gifts freely offered, and we must rely upon his infinite mercy to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

In our lives, we experience happiness as well as sorrow, and if we unite our joys and sufferings to Christ's, he will lead us to share in his victory and the glory of his Resurrection. Thus, may we celebrate the blessings of Easter with a humble and grateful heart!

May the peace of the risen Lord, the Light of the world, be with you in this Easter season and always.

Pascua de 2021

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

¡Nuestro Señor ha resucitado! La Luz de! mundo ha conquistado las tinieblas y nos ha dado la oportunidad de vivir con Él, ahora y siempre. Después de un año largo y dificil, ahora celebramos con alegría la Resurrección del Señor y estamos  renovados y fortalecidos  por la fe que Él imparte.

Ruego que cada uno de ustedes pueda acoger plenamente esta santa temporada de victoria de Nuestro Senor sabre el sufrimiento y la muerte. A pesar de la pandemia y de las demás dificultades que afectaron nuestra vida el año pasado, ¡tenemos motivos para regocijarnos! Nuestro Señor nos ama y, en fiel obediencia al Padre, ofreció el último sacrificio en nombre nuestro para que pudieramos tener vida eterna con Él en el Cielo en compañía de los santos y los ángeles.

Al comienzo de la Cuaresma, el Miércoles de Ceniza, prediqué sobre una virtud fundamental para quienes buscan tener una estrecha relación con Dios: la humildad. San Agustín nos dijo estas palabras en sus famosos escritos: "Si me preguntaran cuáles son los caminos de Dios, les diría que el primero es humildad, el segundo es humildad y el tercero es humildad. No es que falten otros preceptos, pero si la humildad no precede todo lo que hacemos, nuestros esfuerzos serán infructuosos". Solo Dios tiene el poder de vencer la muerte y de dar nueva vida en Él. Nuestra alegría debe estar arraigada en el humilde reconocimiento de que la salvación lograda por Cristo se nos ofrece gratuitamente. La muerte y la resurrección son dones que se nos ofrecen gratuitamente y debemos confiar en su infinita misericordia para entrar en el Reino de los Cielos.

En nuestra vida experimentamos felicidad y dolor y si unimos nuestras alegrías y penas a las de Cristo, Él nos llevará a compartir su victoria y la gloria de su Resurrección. Por lo tanto, celebremos las bendiciones de la Pascua con un corazón humilde y agradecido.

Que la paz del Señor Resucitado, la Luz de! mundo, esté con ustedes en esta temporada de Pascua y siempre.
