Local leader of Stabat Mater Pleads Guilty

The Diocese of Arlington has been informed that Antonio Perez-Alcala, former local leader of the Secular Institute Stabat Mater, has pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated sexual battery. Mr. Perez-Alcala also formerly served as a parish volunteer and diocesan staff member, but the abuse did not occur on parish/diocesan property or in relation to his parish/diocesan ministry.

Mr. Perez-Alcala received a 10 year suspended prison sentence and was given 5 years of supervised probation. Three other counts against Mr. Perez-Alcala were dropped by the prosecutors.

Secular Institute Stabat Mater is a non-diocesan Catholic entity that serves the Hispanic community in Northern Virginia. Upon Mr. Perez-Alcala's arrest in the fall of 2021, the Diocese of Arlington released a statement:

We take this opportunity to express deepest sorrow for the victim(s) of Mr. Perez-Alcala as well as their family members, who are undoubtedly struggling with the pain and wounds of this abuse.

We renew our commitment to immediately report all allegations of sexual abuse of a minor, to cooperate with any law enforcement investigation, and to assist victims in their healing. Anyone who has information related to an allegation of sexual abuse of a minor is encouraged to report it to the legal authorities immediately and to contact the diocesan Victim Assistance Coordinator.

May Our Lord guide victims of child sexual abuse and draw them closer to himself, the Great Consoler and the source of all healing.

El líder local de Stabat Mater se declara culpable

La Diócesis de Arlington ha sido informada de que Antonio Pérez-Alcala, anteriormente dirigente local del Instituto Secular Stabat Mater, se ha declarado culpable de un cargo de agresión sexual agravada. El Sr. Pérez-Alcala también fue anteriormente voluntario parroquial y miembro del personal diocesano, pero los abusos no se produjeron en propiedades parroquiales/diocesanas ni en relación con su ministerio parroquial/diocesano.

El Sr. Pérez-Alcala fue condenado a 10 años de prisión suspendida y a 5 años de libertad condicional supervisada. Los fiscales retiraron otros tres cargos contra el Sr. Pérez-Alcala.

Animamos a toda persona que tenga información relacionada con una denuncia de abuso sexual de un menor a que la denuncie inmediatamente a las autoridades legales y se ponga en contacto con el Coordinador diocesano de Asistencia a las Víctimas.
