Bishop Burbidge on National Marriage Week 2018

National Marriage Week 2018

Video Transcript:

Again this year, the Diocese of Arlington joins with Catholic dioceses and other organizations throughout the United States to observe National Marriage Awareness Week from February 7th to February 14th.

During this week, we celebrate and proclaim the truth and beauty of the vocation of marriage as taught by Jesus Christ. We also thank husbands and wives for reflecting, through their own marriages, the faithfulness and love that Our Lord Jesus has for His Bride, the Church.

You, dear married couples, witness this truth when you draw closer to God and to each other through your prayer and fidelity; when you cherish and respect the dignity you share as children of God created in His image; when you love generously, sacrifice selflessly, forgive unceasingly and remain open to the gift of life.

Your faithful, joyful and holy marriages, along with the grace of God, help transform our homes, our parishes and the very culture in which we live.

On Sunday, February 11, I ask that all our parishes include prayers for our married couples and their families and for all who are discerning a vocation to the married life, especially those who are engaged to be husband and wife.

Through the intercession of the Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph, may Our Lord Jesus bless and protect all husbands and wives and strengthen and sanctify our world through the gift of faithful and loving Christian marriages.
