March 27, 2017
ARLINGTON, Va. – On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, Janet Haines will begin her walk to her post at Broad and Spring Streets serving as a crossing guard for the City of Falls Church, as she has for 50 years. From the minute she arrives at 7:30 a.m.,
standing in full attention, this 91 year-old will be greeted by the honking horns of passing cars, their drivers waving “hello,” pedestrians walking to the Metro or to work, and of course, students on their way to school. Also, on this day, Mrs. Haines will be
acknowledged for these 50 years, 180 school days a year, twice a day, that she stood at a busy intersection in all kinds of weather, to greet everyone, and cross our young students to safety each day.
