Day 4 Reflection (June 25)

Pray

For our sisters and brothers in the Middle East: through the intercession of the Apostles, who established these most ancient churches, may Christians and all religious minorities be freed from violent persecution.

Reflect

In July 2015, Pope Francis said, "Today we are dismayed to see how in the Middle East and elsewhere in the world many of our brothers and sisters are persecuted, tortured and killed for their faith in Jesus…. [I]n this third world war, waged piecemeal, which we are now experiencing, a form of genocide – I insist on the word – is taking place, and it must end." Today, Christians are among those religious minorities confronted with persecution, despite their having been critical to the vitality and pluralism of the region since the earliest days of Christianity.

Act

The Church in the United States stands in solidarity with Christians in the Middle East. Consider joining efforts to support Middle East Christians with a donation to the  Knights of Columbus,  Aid to the Church in Need,  Catholic Relief Services, or  Catholic Near East Welfare Association.

Por nuestros hermanos y hermanas en Medio Oriente; para que por la intercesión de los Apóstoles, que establecieron estas iglesias más antiguas, los cristianos y todas las minorías religiosas sean liberados de la persecución violenta.

En julio de 2015, el Papa Francisco dijo: "Hoy vemos con espanto cómo en Medio Oriente y otros lugares del mundo se persigue, se tortura, se asesina a muchos hermanos nuestros por su fe en Jesús. Dentro de esta tercera guerra mundial en cuotas que vivimos, hay una especie –fuerzo la palabra– de genocidio en marcha que debe cesar". Hoy día, los cristianos están entre esas minorías religiosas que enfrentan la persecución, a pesar de ser esenciales para la vitalidad y pluralismo de la región desde los primeros días del cristianismo.

Actúa

La Iglesia en Estados Unidos ofrece su solidaridad con los cristianos de Medio Oriente. Considera unir esfuerzos para apoyar a los cristianos en Medio Oriente realizando un donativo a los  Caballeros de Colón,  Ayuda a la Iglesia Necesitad,  Catholic Relief Services, or  Catholic Near East Welfare Association.
