Statement from Bishop Burbidge on the Anniversary
of the Assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

April 4, 2018

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was tragically assassinated 50 years ago today. We recall his memory ever grateful for his Christian faith and commitment to justice. In word and action, he taught us about the need for equality for all persons, non-violence, compassion, respect, and love for neighbor. May Dr. King continue to inspire us so that his dream becomes a reality and we live together peacefully, united as brothers and sisters.

I ask the faithful of the Diocese of Arlington to reflect upon the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. today, pray for his family, and to consider how we can do our part each day to bring about greater justice, love, and unity in our world.
