VIENNA, Va.  – Volunteers at Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC) Catholic Church and School in Vienna assembled 755 “power packs” for needy children in Fairfax County schools, through a program called ‘Food for Others’. The power packs are crucial in helping children, who have very little food or no food at home, to get through the weekend. Each power pack provides children with three meals for Saturday, and three meals for Sunday, plus snacks and drinks. An estimated 2,723 pounds of food was donated to the church for these power packs.

This was made possible with the support of not only the parishioners and school families who donated food before the event, but also the Santa Maria Council of the Knights of Columbus, which contributed $200, and the parish’s Fish Fry patrons, who collectively donated $817 through a 50/50 raffle, the proceeds of which purchased items needed for the “power packs.”

The OLGC youth group, 7th graders and staff carried and collected the items so that the packing could occur, and a few moms delivered the bags to ‘Food for Others.’
