Arlington priest to work at Vatican

ARLINGTON, Va. – Rev. Paul F. deLadurantaye, Executive Director of the St. Thomas More Institute and Secretary for Catechetics and Sacred Liturgy for the Catholic Diocese of Arlington, has been appointed to the English section of the Vatican Secretariat of State for five years beginning Sept. 1, 2018.

Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge, Bishop of Arlington, said, “This appointment is a recognition of Father deLadurantaye’s faithful priestly service and his many gifts and abilities. In addition, the appointment bestows a great honor upon the Diocese of Arlington and our priest. I ask you to join me in praying for Father deLadurantaye as he prepares for his new assignment in service to the Holy Father in the exercise of his ministry to the universal Church. May Our Lord Jesus bless Father deLadurantaye and all his endeavors, and may Mary, Mother of Priests, watch over him always.

Biography
Born in Washington, D.C., Fr. deLadurantaye attended Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington and studied for the priesthood at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Pennsylvania and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.  Ordained by Pope St. John Paul II in 1988, Father deLadurantaye served at St. Bernadette in Springfield and then as Associate Director of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington before earning his Licentiate and Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family.  He has served in a variety of capacities at Queen of Apostles in Alexandria and at Holy Spirit in Annandale. Fr. deLadurantaye is on the faculty of the Notre Dame Graduate School of Christendom College in Alexandria and the Marymount University Catholic School Leadership Program in Arlington. He belongs to the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars and the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, is on the board of trustees at Catholic Distance University, serves on the Presbyteral Council, and is a member of the College of Consultors. He has served as a judge in the diocesan tribunal since 1999 and is also the diocesan censor, reviewing texts for doctrinal accuracy.  He has published several articles in Catholic journals including the Homiletic and Pastoral ReviewThe Linacre QuarterlyThe National Catholic Bioethics Quarterly, and Teologia i Moralnosc. Fr. deLadurantaye is currently in residence at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Arlington.
