    Fostering Participation in Sacred Liturgy

Liturgy Workshops

Presented by the Office of Divine Worship, the Liturgy Workshops provide formation opportunities for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Readers, and all the faithful. The workshop for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion is mandatory for new EMHCs but recommended for all in this ministry; it addresses the practical, theological, and spiritual dimensions of the ministry. The workshop for Readers is optional but recommended for all Readers; it similarly addresses the practical, theological, and spiritual dimensions of the ministry. A presentation open to all addresses a specified topic in the area of liturgy in order to encourage and promote the participation of all the faithful in the liturgy.

The Liturgy Workshops are offered on Saturdays throughout the year across all seven deaneries of the diocese (schedule below). No RSVPs are required. Individuals who desire to become new ministers (EMHCs or Readers) should first discuss the opportunities available at their local parish with the Pastor or designated parish contact for liturgical ministries. All liturgical ministers must be approved by their local Pastor.

For more information on Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, including the necessary paperwork, please see the EMHC page.

"Mother Church earnestly desires that all the faithful should be led to that fully conscious and active participation in liturgical celebrations which is demanded by the very nature of the liturgy." (Second Vatican Council, Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, no. 14)
