Advertising Account Representative

The Diocese of Arlington, one of the fastest growing dioceses in the nation, is searching for an Advertising Account Representative to work for the Arlington Catholic Herald.


The Herald supports the evangelization efforts of the bishop and the diocese by publishing a weekly Catholic newspaper.  The Advertising Department supports the Herald by selling advertising in order to offset the cost of publishing the paper.  The Advertising Account Representative manages existing advertising accounts and solicits new advertising business for the Herald



  • Prospect for new advertising business through various communication methods, including telephone, email, and personal meetings; prospect for new business using various online, multi-media, and local resources.  
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with existing clients through various methods of communication, including telephone, fax, email, and personal meetings to ensure high level of client satisfaction.  
  • Coordinate with graphic artists and clients in order to facilitate ad design and smooth transition of ads, from space reservation to final approval.  
  • Enter and maintain accurate data related to current and prospective clients; record all sales, prospecting, and follow-up activities.   
  • Monitor contract agreements as well as payment history of advertising clients; follow-up with overdue accounts.  
  • Develop new ideas in conjunction with the Advertising Manager in order to help promote the growth of the Advertising Department.



  • Knowledge/Skills:  Must be proficient in MS Office Suite, including Outlook, as well as using internet resources and have the ability to learn Advise, Great Plains, and MS Access.  Must have strong organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.  Strong oral and written communication skills as well as attention to detail are a must.  Must be self-motivated and be able to deal with frequent rejection.  Basic knowledge of the Catholic Church, its beliefs and teachings is essential.  Ability to speak and read Spanish is a plus.

  • Education Required:  High-school diploma required.
  • Licenses/Certifications:  Valid driver’s license must be maintained at all times.   
  • Years and Types of Experience:  1 year sales and/or customer service experience required.
