DESCRIPTION:The National Day of Prayer for the African American and African Family has reached its 37th year. This annual observance takes place on the first Sunday of Black History Month.  \nBelow is a prayer composed by Fr. Jim Goode\, OFM\, who in 1989 founded this National Day of Prayer for the African American and African Family: \nGod of mercy and love we place our African American and African Families before You today. May we be proud of our history and never forget those who paid a great price for our liberation. Bless us one by one and keep our hearts and minds fixed on higher ground. Help us to live for you and not for ourselves\, and may we cherish and proclaim the gift of life. Bless our parents\, guardians and grandparents\, relatives and friends. Give us the amazing grace to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Help us\, as Your children\, to live in such a way that the beauty and greatness of authentic love is reflected in all that we say and do. This journey promises to be a profound experience of faith\, service\, and community as we come together to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need. \nEach day\, we will celebrate Mass and participate in reflections that draw us closer to God and to each other. A highlight of our trip will be visiting the residence of St. Oscar Romero. We will also have the honor of celebrating Mass at the very site where he was martyred\, a moment that promises to be deeply moving and inspirational. \nIn addition to our spiritual journey\, we will engage in light construction projects\, distribute food to the hungry\, and visit local clinics to offer support and care. These acts of service are not only opportunities to help those in need but also to witness the face of Christ in our brothers and sisters. \nWe are excited to offer this new opportunity for young adults to engage in their faith\, experience a different culture\, and form new relationships with other young adults. Your presence will undoubtedly enrich our mission and the lives of those we serve.
