Emmanuel Carreno

St. Charles Borromeo Seminary
Pre-Theology II
University of Mary Washington
St. John Bosco Parish, Woodstock, VA

What did you do prior to entering seminary?

I was an Americorps Volunteer in Jupiter Florida, a FOCUS missionary for 2 years, and a Richmond Diocese Social Ministries Coordinator for 2 years. I took a trip to the monastery, returned and found construction work. I just finished working as a poultry production shipping clerk.

What influenced your decision to apply for seminary entrance?

Many people have been praying for me, so prayers have been heard, and so many distractions have been dismissed. More than a handful of priests have inspired me with their faithfulness and devotion to their ministry and I want to humbly follow their footsteps.

Why do you want to be a priest?

I have always wanted to do two things; pray and serve. I want to live that to the fullest.

What are your favorite pastimes?

I love immersing myself in the outdoors. Any time I get I go hiking or camping. I enjoy jogging on different roads with awesome beautiful and changing scenes.

What is your favorite quote?

"God Alone" makes for a simple but sharp glance at our beginning and end, Saint Louis Marie de Montfort's words have reminded me on and on throughout my journey that my sole purpose and goal in life is and should be God alone.

Who is your favorite Saint and why?

All the saints! I am currently reading about and inspired by Saint Joseph Benedict Labre's great spiritual poverty.

What advice would you give to a young man thinking about the seminary?

Go for it! There is nothing to lose and so much to gain.

Any other facts about yourself that people might find interesting?

I love listening to all kinds of music. I used to listen to all sorts of rock, indie rock, punk rock, southern rock, metal, alternative metal and post-metal. But I have never been so much satisfied as much as listening to gregorian chant. I really enjoy Saint Hildegard Von Bingen's works.
