Upon receiving a unanimous recommendation from a search committee composed of priests, lay staff, and lay professionals and after prayerful discernment, Bishop Burbidge is pleased to announce his appointment of Maureen Furino as General Counsel to the Diocese of Arlington. As General Counsel, Maureen will support the Office of the Bishop. Maureen will begin her assignment on September 9, 2024.
“Maureen was highly recommended by others, and she is known for her expertise, wisdom, and dedication. She will bring a broad understanding of legal issues that a diocese faces as well as a zeal for the mission of the church," said Bishop Burbidge. “We are looking forward to Maureen joining our team and serving the priests and the faithful of the Diocese of Arlington.”
For the past three years, Maureen has served as Deputy General Counsel in the Executive Office of the Governor of Florida. Prior to that, she practiced corporate and business law for nearly six years at Baker Hostetler LLP. In her practice, she counseled churches, private schools, and nonprofit organizations. Maureen earned her Juris Doctor from Florida State University and her bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Central Florida. In Florida, Maureen was a member of the Catholic Lawyers Guild and President of the Young Catholic Professionals.
