Cardinal Newman Society recognizes three diocesan schools as models of faithful education
The Cardinal Newman Society, long known as advocates for strong Catholic education and faith formation at the college level, has expanded and is now recognizing excellence in Catholic identity in K-12 schools.
The first list of the Newman Guide Recommended Schools recognizes 20 schools across the United States as faithfully upholding Catholic education.
“By affirming its commitment to the established standards, a Newman Guide School stands as an exemplar of faithful Catholic education for other schools nationwide,” the Cardinal Newman Society said on its webpage announcing the schools.
Of the 20 schools, three were listed in the Diocese of Arlington – the most any diocese in the country.
“We are so impressed with the policies we’ve seen at schools in the Diocese of Arlington. The policies have aligned well with The Cardinal Newman Society’s policy standards for Newman Guide recognition,” said Kelly Salomon, Vice President of Newman Guide Programs.
The three schools are:
- Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Potomac Shores
- Seton School in Manassas
- Saint Rita School in Alexandria
Newman Guide Recommended Schools enjoy national recognition for their strong Catholic identity by being named in The Newman Guide. Becoming Newman Guide Recommended has helped institutions draw more Catholic families, attract mission-fit faculty, strengthen their Catholic identity, and increase marketing efforts and enrollment.
“We are very pleased to see these schools in the Diocese of Arlington being recognized as Newman Guide Schools and to know that the Cardinal Newman society took note of robust diocesan policy supporting strong Catholic identity in our schools” said Dr. Joseph E. Vorbach III, superintendent of schools for the diocese.
