This week Catholic high schools administered by the Diocese of Arlington concluded their graduation exercises for the Class of 2026. 

Collectively students at Bishop Ireton Catholic High School, Bishop O’Connell Catholic High School, Saint Paul VI Catholic High School and Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School:

• Earned more than $94.6 million in scholarships awarded (as of May 20);

• Performed more than 83,600 community service hours from the schools that track;

• Included 12 students attending military and service academies;

• One student from Bishop O’Connell is going on to the seminary, and

• Eight National Merit Scholarship finalists.

Bishop Michael F. Burbidge of the Diocese of Arlington reminded the graduates when he addressed them about Pope Leo XIV’s new encyclical Magnifica Humanitas and encouraged them to live their lives according to his words. 

“As you go forth at this new and exciting time in your life, be sure to avoid seeking that which is artificial and to pursue all that is real, true, and good.  As an individual, never be artificial. Be true to him. Be true to yourself. Be the person the Lord calls you to be and be known for your integrity,” Bishop Burbidge said.
