The Chancellor serves the diocesan bishop as notary and secretary of the diocesan curia and assists in fulfilling the administrative functions of the diocese. The office is entrusted with matters pertaining to dispensations, permissions, and other canonical responsibilities as delegated by the bishop.

The Chancellor oversees the organization and preservation of diocesan records and archives, ensuring the proper maintenance of the sacramental registers and historical documents of each parish. In collaboration with the archivist, the Chancellor safeguards both the written record and the historical artifacts that reflect the life and mission of the diocese. 

The office also provides letters of suitability for members of the laity.
