Today, the Catholic Diocese of Arlington celebrates the fourth anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. We thank God for our national deliverance from Roe v. Wade. As much as we celebrate Dobbs, we recognize that justice requires true constitutional protection for all persons. We pray for the day when American law once more protects human life from the moment of conception throughout the nation and in every state and territory.
As Virginians, and as people of faith, we recognize that this is a momentous time in the life of our beloved state. This September in the Commonwealth of Virginia two proposed amendments on the ballot threaten the human right to life and the truth of marriage. These proposed amendments are called the “Virginia Right to Reproductive Freedom Amendment” and the “Virginia Remove Constitutional Same-Sex Marriage Ban Amendment.” Put simply, these proposed amendments threaten the human right to life for the unborn, the equal protection of the laws, and religious liberty.
As Catholics, we must make our voices heard and ensure our votes count on these crucial issues of fundamental justice. This is why the Catholic Diocese of Arlington has launched its "Catholics Vote No" campaign (catholicsvoteno.com) to alert, educate, and empower the grassroots faithful concerning these dangerous and deceptive amendments.
We ask God to pour out his blessings upon us so that our nation and our state may live according to the Gospel of Life in every way, and we recommit ourselves through sincere prayer and peaceful action to advocacy for the human right to life in Virginia and our nation.
