The four diocesan high schools of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington have been celebrating their graduating seniors.
- Saint John Paul the Great Catholic High School honored 141 graduates on May 22.
- Saint Paul VI High School honored 278 graduates on May 23.
- Bishop Denis J. O'Connell High School honored 275 graduates on May 29
- Bishop Ireton High School will honor 210 graduates on May 30.
“We thank our parents for the sacrifices they make to provide their children with a sound Catholic education, and our administrators and educators, who see this as a vocation to teach in our Catholic schools to form men and women as disciples of the Lord,” said Bishop Michael F. Burbidge, Diocese of Arlington.
“We have great excellence in education, but we're also forming disciples. I'm hopeful and confident that these graduates will not only be leaders in our country, but that they'll lead in accordance with the Lord, with the gospel.”
Diocese of Arlington Catholic high school graduates have made significant accomplishments:
- These students have received more than $81 million in college scholarships as of May 20. This amount is expected to increase as final numbers come in.
- 5 National Merit Award Finalists.
- 9 will be attending service academies in the fall.
- More than 100 student athletes who have signed on to continue playing sports in college.
“We are delighted to send these students forward with a prayer that God will continue to bless them in this new chapter. May he work through them to bring the light of Christ to the margins and be voices for peace in an ever-changing world,” said Dr. Joseph E. Vorbach III, superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Arlington.
