Master Catechist Program
Master Catechist Formation
The Master Catechist Training Program is open to experienced catechists who are ready to deepen their involvement in the catechetical ministry of the Church. After completion of a two-year program, candidates will be certified as Master Catechists, qualified to provide catechetical training in parishes. In the program, candidates grow in their faith through instruction, days of prayer, peer mentoring, and spiritual direction.
- Year I focuses on key doctrinal and catechetical topics.
- Year II focuses on aspects of human development: psychological, moral, emotional and spiritual; catechetical method; and the development of skills related to teaching adults. Attention to and support for the candidates' personal spiritual development are continuous throughout the program.
Master Catechist Certification is the most advanced catechist certification in Arlington Diocese! It is a two-year (6-course) preparation for leaders of Evangelization and Adult Faith Formation, Sacrament Preparation (including RCIA), and Children's Formation.
It is also the minimum requirement for employment for Directors of Religious Education. This customized program from Christendom Graduate School may be taken in class, by webinar, or asynchronously. Courses may also be "upgraded" for academic credit and used for the M.A. degree program.
This certification is an investment in your catechists and in your parish program team. Registrants pay $100 per course and the parish subsidizes each participant by $500 per course. We encourage every DRE to recruit catechists capable of advanced study and helping you build up your parish faith formation program. To register, applicants must complete the attached registration form and complete the process through Christendom's registration link.
