Pastoral Message on the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity provides us with the opportunity to pray for and work towards the unity that Christ longs for us to share. Christian denominations are compelled to join in prayer because of our great love for the Lord our God and to find ways to cooperate in works of charity, loving our neighbor as ourselves.

As Christians, we are brothers and sisters united in our love of Jesus and the commitment to live his Gospel. This provides the basis for our continued dialogue and commitment to seek common ground and unity whenever possible.

During this week especially, I ask all to pray for the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit, who will create greater unity among Christians throughout the world with full visible communion as our goal, that we may be one, as Jesus and the Father are one, so that all the world may believe that the Father sent him (Jn. 17:21).

Mensaje pastoral con motivo de la Semana de Oración por la Unidad Cristiana

Amados hermanos y hermanas en Cristo:

La Semana de Oración por la Unidad Cristiana nos ofrece la oportunidad de rezar y trabajar por la unidad que Cristo anhela que compartamos. Las denominaciones cristianas se ven impulsadas a unirse en oración por causa de nuestro gran amor por Dios, Nuestro Señor, y a buscar formas de cooperar en obras de caridad, al amar a nuestro prójimo como a nosotros mismos.

Como cristianos, somos hermanos y hermanas unidos en nuestro amor de Jesús y en el compromiso de vivir según su Evangelio. Esto constituye la base de nuestro continuo diálogo y de nuestro compromiso de buscar la unidad y un terreno común, siempre que sea posible.

Especialmente durante esta semana, les pido a todos que recen para pedir la ayuda y guía del Espíritu Santo, que creará una mayor unidad entre los cristianos de todo el mundo, con una comunión plena y visible como nuestra meta, para que seamos uno al igual que Jesús y el Padre, a fin de que todo el mundo crea que el Padre lo envió (Juan 17:21).
