Statement from Bishop Burbidge on the World Day for Consecrated Life 2018

On this World Day for Consecrated Life, we celebrate the men and women religious who consecrate their lives to the Lord through the counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience. Through their presence, their prayer and their participation in our schools, parishes and other apostolates, they inspire and enrich our diocese. May they remember, as Pope Francis has said, that, “It is beautiful – and a great grace – to be completely and forever consecrated to God and the service of our brothers and sisters” (Message for the 2018 World Day of Vocations).

Please join me in praying for the more than 160 consecrated persons currently serving in the Diocese of Arlington, including religious, brothers and sisters. May Our Lord Jesus bless them and their faithful service to the Church and to God’s people. 

We pray also for the 61 men and women from our diocese who are currently in formation for religious orders throughout the world, and for those who are still discerning the call to serve the Lord through a life of total consecration. May Our Heavenly Father grant them the wisdom and courage to know and follow His will.

En esta Jornada Mundial de la Vida Consagrada, celebramos la existencia de los hombres y mujeres religiosos que han consagrado su vida al Señor por medio de la profesión de los consejos evangélicos de pobreza, castidad y obediencia. Con su presencia, oración y participación en nuestras escuelas, parroquias y otras formas de
apostolado, han inspirado y enriquecido a nuestra Diócesis. Recuerden, como ha dicho el Papa Francisco, que “Es hermoso —y es una gracia inmensa— estar consagrados a Dios y al servicio de los hermanos, totalmente y para siempre”. (Mensaje del Santo Padre Francisco para la 55ª Jornada Mundial de Oración por las Vocaciones, 2018).

Les ruego que se unan a mí para rezar por las más de 160 personas consagradas que sirven actualmente en la Diócesis de Arlington, incluso por nuestros hermanos y hermanas religiosos. Que Nuestro Señor Jesucristo los bendiga y que bendiga su servicio a la Iglesia y al pueblo de Dios.

Rezamos también por los 61 hombres y mujeres de nuestra Diócesis actualmente en formación para las órdenes religiosas en todo el mundo y por quienes todavía están en período de discernimiento sobre el llamado a servir al Señor por medio de una vida de consagración total. Que Nuestro Padre Celestial les conceda la sabiduría y el valor de saber cuál es Su Voluntad y de seguirla.
