Bishop Burbidge's Statement for Mothers Day 2023

Each May, we take time to prayerfully celebrate Mother's Day, and honor the special women who bear or raise children. Mothers share uniquely in the creative, life-giving work of God. In the vocation of motherhood, women provide the nurturing, sacrificial love that is the beating heart of the home. God showers mothers with abundant graces to fulfill their many obligations.

We also honor Mary, the mother of Jesus, during this month. We recall her humble submission to the will of God. In giving Mary to the Church, Jesus spiritually unites Mary to each mother as a model of humility, peace and grace.

Throughout every stage of motherhood, you are living through exhausting yet joyful days as you care for and support your children in countless ways. Despite the challenges, know that you are nurturing your children in the schoolhouse of love. Time will fly by! Pray for the grace and wisdom to persist through the difficulties and enjoy the moments that will fade quickly.

As your children grow, you are guiding them as they make crucial life decisions: choosing good friends, laying a foundation for their future through school and activities, using their time, talents and resources, and discerning their own vocations. If your children have wandered from the practice of the faith, continue to love and encourage them, trusting that the seeds of faith you planted will bear fruit at a time you least expect. Do not allow any concerns about your children to lead you to despair, but pray for them daily, entrusting them to the protection of our Blessed Mother. God will answer your prayers and give your children the grace to grow in wisdom and truth.

To those of us whose mothers have passed from this life, I understand the sorrow you endure. Take heart. Our mothers are not beyond our prayers! United with God in heaven, mothers are intercessors for our needs and continue to watch over us.

We treasure and love our mothers, God's special gift to us. May our Blessed Mother guide them, and may our good Lord bless them, now and always. Happy Mother's Day!

Declaración de Monseñor Burbidge con motivo del Día de la Madre de 2023

Cada mes de mayo, dedicamos tiempo a celebrar el Día de la Madre en espíritu de oración y a honrar a las mujeres especiales que dan a luz o crían a sus hijos. De una manera singular, las madres comparten la obra creadora y vivificante de Dios. En la vocación de la maternidad, las mujeres ofrecen el amor edificante y sacrificado que es el corazón palpitante del hogar. Dios colma a las madres de abundantes gracias para cumplir con sus múltiples obligaciones.

Durante el transcurso de este mes, también prestamos homenaje a María, la Madre de Jesús. Recordamos su humilde entrega a la voluntad de Dios. Al darle a María a la Iglesia, Jesús une espiritualmente a María con cada madre como modelo de humildad, paz y gracia.

A través de cada fase de la maternidad, ustedes viven días agotadores pero alegres al cuidar y apoyar a sus hijos de innumerables formas. A pesar de las dificultades, tengan presente que crían a sus hijos en la escuela del amor. ¡El tiempo pasará volando! Rueguen para que se les concedan la gracia y la sabiduría necesarias para perseverar en medio de las dificultades y disfruten de los momentos felices que se desvanecerán con rapidez.

A medida que crezcan sus hijos, ustedes los guiarán cuando tomen decisiones fundamentales en la vida, tales como escoger buenos amigos, sentar una base para el futuro por medio de la escuela y de diversas actividades, emplear su tiempo y sus talentos y recursos y discernir sus propias vocaciones. Si sus hijos se han alejado de la práctica de la fe, sigan amándolos y animándolos, con la confianza de que las semillas de fe que ustedes han sembrado darán fruto en el momento menos esperado. No permitan que las preocupaciones por sus hijos les causen desesperación; más bien, recen a diario por ellos y encomiéndenlos a la protección de Nuestra Bienaventurada Madre. Dios responderá a sus oraciones y les dará a sus hijos la gracia de crecer en sabiduría y verdad.

Entiendo el dolor que nos deja la partida de nuestras madres de esta vida. Tengan valor. ¡Ellas no están más allá de nuestras oraciones! Unidas con Dios en el Cielo, interceden por nuestras necesidades y siguen velando por nosotros.

Valoramos y amamos a nuestras madres, un regalo especial que nos ha dado Dios. Que Nuestra Bienaventurada Madre las guíe y que Nuestro Señor misericordioso las bendiga ahora y siempre. ¡Feliz Día de la Madre!
