According to HUD, 6,067 people were homeless in Virginia in 2017.

ARLINGTON, Va. – On Saturday, November 17, at least 50 people—including high school students—are expected to sleep in boxes outside Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Alexandria for the ‘Homeless for a Night’ campout for homelessness awareness. In addition to building awareness, the church will collect socks and adult male winter boots, as the local hypothermia shelter at Rising Hope United Methodist Church.

 

Participants are not allowed electronics, power tools, wood or hammers/nails.

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) homelessness increased for the first time in seven years nationwide in 2017.  In Virginia in 2017, 6,067 people were homeless.
